Required steps for M42 GenAI Model update from Mistral to Phi-4
Introduction
As we adopt the latest AI models to equip our M42 Pro (former Efecte ESM) platform with the best AI models available, we plan to upgrade the model used in Matrix42 GenAI on a special schedule. This upgrade equips our customers with the latest model, which excels in producing content in different languages and has an improved ability to follow instructions.
Previously, some customers have reported issues with the language model powering our generative AI features. The problems are usually visible when generating content in languages other than English using the current Mistral model. This upgrade is a significant step forward in equipping our platform with a high-quality language model that can better meet our customers' needs. Eventually, we will update all customers who use M42 GenAI with the current Mistral model to use a new Phi-4 model, which provides better capabilities for native, prompt-based translations.
However, the upcoming model update has a temporary impact when used with the Email assistance using the current language selection setting, which is explained below.
Version 2025.3 will introduce a fully reimagined writing assistance, that will allow content generation and improvement in Text, Comment and Worklog attributes, while the user has the control over in which language the content is produced in.
Actions required for Email assistance when using translations
The new model offers better performance, but is not fully compatible with the ESM 2025.2 Effie AI email assistance multi-language functionalities. After the language model update, the user will not be able to control the target language since we are changing the translation mechanism in the product in 2025.3.
If you have accepted the upgrade to use Phi-4 until then, multi-language usage can only be done with dynamic prompting so that the AI detects the primary language used in the original ticket context by the customer, and then produces the response in that language. This is an experimental feature, that you can try out using the prompts below.
You do not need to change AI Actions settings, but you can continue to configure new use cases to try out the translation capabilities of Phi-4.
If you don't need translation for Email assistance:
- Disable the “allow language selection for email assistance” setting found in Effie AI → Email Assistance in the ESM admin
- This will avoid confusion for the users who might attempt to change the output language.
If you want to try out Email assistance translations using Phi-4 model:
- Disable the “allow language selection for email assistance” setting found in Effie AI → Email Assistance in the ESM admin
- Adjust the prompts based on instructions below

Prompts for dynamic translation with the Phi-4 model with version 2025.2
Note
These prompts should be used only to test how the Phi-4 model can produce content in different languages. However, in 2025.3, the choice of the produced language will remain for the user.
If you try out the prompts for dynamic translation, you should change the prompts to the 2025.3 compatible prompts listed later in the document after the upcoming ESM version 2025.3 upgrade.
ESM 2025.3 with Phi-4 based M42 GenAI will allow a new way to define the prompts per use case configured on the attribute level. Remember that you can always continue to customize the prompt to better fit your use case.
