Configuring the Quick Action Button

How administrators configure the Quick Action button on a template.

Overview

The Quick Action button lets agents update a curated set of attributes on a data card without the need to browse all attributes in full edit mode. As an administrator, you can configure one Quick Action button per template, choosing which attributes it exposes and in what order.

The feature is available as a technical preview

Since the feature does not yet support e.g. localizing the configurations, it is hidden by default. You can enable it by setting agent.ui.quick.action.enabled platform setting to true.

Enabling and Configuring the Button

Quick Action is configured directly from a data card on Agent UI, not from Template Management. Configuring it on any data card automatically applies it to the whole template — every data card built from that template will show the same Quick Action button.

Quick Actions can be configured directly in the Agent UI, behind the additional options.
  1. Open any data card built from the template you want to configure (for example, a Ticket).
  2. Click the "more actions" (three dots) icon on the data card. Only users with admin permissions see the Quick Action configuration option here.
  3. Open the Quick Action configuration from that menu.
  4. Enable the Quick Action button.
  5. Enter a name for the button (maximum 25 characters). This name is shown to agents in the Agent UI.
  6. Select the attributes the button should expose. At least one attribute is required.
  7. Reorder the selected attributes as needed — this order is what agents will see in the popup.
  8. Save your changes.

Configured Quick Action becomes visible in the data card header section

Note: Because Quick Action is configured per template, not per data card, your changes apply to every data card built from that template — not just the one you had open.

Supported Attribute Types

The attributes you can expose are limited by data type, handler, and configuration:

  • Supported data types: String, Number (integer or decimal), Text (including rich text), Date, Date/time, Reference, Back-reference, External reference. Single- and multi-value attributes are supported, as well as static attributes.
  • Not supported: Embedded reference
  • Visibility: the attribute must be set to "Always visible" or "Visible in edit only." Hidden and view-only attributes never appear in the picker.
  • "Enable if" logic: attributes with conditional visibility ("Enable if" rules) are excluded.
  • Reference add-ons: a Reference attribute is excluded if it has the "Transform button" or "Reference search window" option enabled.
  • Handlers: the Default handler (plain string/number/date/reference) and following attributes are supported: Expression, MailTo, DatacardHiddenState, FileUpload, ValueButton, Validator, TextNote, and ExternalLinkParameters.

If an attribute stops meeting these conditions after the button was configured (e.g. its handler or visibility changes), it's silently removed from the button the next time it's used — no warning is shown, so review the button's configuration after changing any of its attributes.

Note: The Quick Action button is available in the new Agent UI only — not in the classic UI or on mobile.

Permissions

The Quick Action button respects the same permissions as normal edit mode. An attribute the agent can only read is shown read-only in the popup; an attribute the agent has no access to at all is hidden. If an agent has no access to any of the button's selected attributes, the button itself is hidden.

Usage

Clicking the Quick Action button opens a popup showing only the attributes you've chosen to expose, and puts the data card into edit mode in the background. If attributes used in the Quick Action have existing values, they are also shown. Editing values here does not save them immediately — clicking Update in the popup applies your changes to the data card's edit form; you still need to click the data card's own Save button afterward to actually persist them. Clicking Cancel in the popup discards your quick action changes; if the card wasn't already in edit mode before you opened the popup, it also exits edit mode entirely — but if you were already editing the card, your other unrelated edits are left untouched.
