Gantt View

A Gantt chart is a bar chart that illustrates a project schedule. Gantt is a type of visualization that helps teams understand task schedules, dependencies, and progress over time. Gantt charts are particularly useful for managing complex projects because they provide a clear, visual timeline of different tasks, their durations, and how they overlap or depend on each other.

Creating a Gantt View

Make sure that the view is enabled in the Settings - Maintenance - System Settings - Edit Platform settings - gantt.enabled → “true”.

In the ESM main menu:

  1. Create a “New view”.
  2. Select a template “Project”.
  3. From the top right cornet on the list of views, select “Gantt”.
  4. To populate the view, follow these steps:
    1. Go to "Settings" for the project. In General-tab:
      1. Template: Choose template → “Project”.
      2. Folder: If not folder is set, then all data cards are used with no limits regarding to Folders.
      3. Visible: All (show all data, this might incur slowdowns in the system, so use with care), Visible or Hidden.
    2. Gantt Settings -tab:
      1. By default, only the first level is shown. Once the Level 1 info has been filled, Level 2 can be added.
        • Note that only two levels are currently supported (level 1 and level 2).
      2. Display name - Name of the level.  This is mapped from the fields of the chosen template. For example, “Name” (only string-fields are supported).
      3. From date - The starting point of Gantt-bar. This must be a field in date/time form and the attributes must not have a handler selected. This date should be earlier than "To date".
      4. To date - The ending date of the Gantt-bar.
      5. Reference to level 2 - Reference to level 2 Gantt-bar. For example “Tasks”.
      6. Once all settings for level 1 have been set, it is possible to add the level 2.

Now that the Gantt-view has been created:

  • Under Level 1, the Level 2 bar are displayed.
    • The orange line, is the set length of Level 1.
    • Dark blue bar is currently summed up time of the all the subtasks.
    • Light blue bars are the set times for subtasks and work as their timelines.
  • Split view is always turned on.
  • Zoom, zoom to fit are available at the top bar.
  • Sorting and column selection are available behind the meatball menu (three dots).
  • Sorting is done by clicking the heading of the column.

Common Questions

  • I cannot find date fields for my view - You need an attribute an with no special handler attached to it.
  • All of my Gantt-bars are just points with not lengths - Make sure “From Date” is before “To Date”.
  • I cannot deselect any columns - In some configurations this is a known issue.
