License Overview
ESM uses a two-level licensing method with product and user licenses. Both are needed to make ESM work.
Types of Licenses
All users must have a user license to log in ESM. ESM has two user license types: dedicated and floating. Both license types grant either read or write permission.
- Dedicated License: Assigned to a specific user, ensuring consistent access to ESM. This license type guarantees the user can always log in.
- Floating License: Shared among users, available on a first-come, first-served basis. This license is not tied to any specific user, offering flexible access as needed.
A read license grants a user permission to access a certain ESM module and to view the data cards. A read license does not permit editing of data cards, whereas a write license allows both viewing and editing.
License Permissions
- Read License: Allows a user to access specific ESM modules and view data cards. It does not permit editing, ensuring users can only read available information.
- Write License: Provides comprehensive access, enabling users to view and edit data cards. This license type is suitable for users who need to modify and update data within ESM.
Each user must have either a dedicated or floating license to log in to ESM, with the choice between read and write permissions based on their role and access needs.
Product Licenses
If you've purchased new modules, features, or your existing product license has expired, you can request a new ESM product license through the Efecte Service Desk. Each product license is uniquely generated, containing details about the license type and the host ID of the machine running the ESM solution. The license information is securely encrypted within the license key, which, once installed in ESM, activates the license.
Installation Process
On-Premises Environments:
- Install the product_license.xml file by placing it in the specific directory within the Efecte installation folder: [EFECTE_INSTALL_FOLDER]/webapp/WEB-INF/license. Ensure that only one product_license.xml file is stored in this location.
- To activate the new license, restart the Efecte Tomcat service.
Efecte Cloud Environments:
For cloud-hosted environments, the Efecte Service Provider manages product license updates or changes on your behalf.
